MONTE CARLO, Monaco — The 2025 Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters is officially underway, with top-ranked players, including Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, ramping up their preparations for the prestigious clay-court event.

The tournament kicked off over the weekend, marking the first ATP Masters 1000 event of the clay season, held from April 5-13 at the iconic Monte-Carlo Country Club. Djokovic, a two-time champion at this tournament, is chasing his 100th tour-level title, while Alcaraz is making his second appearance in Monte-Carlo.

During a practice session on Sunday, April 6, Djokovic and Alcaraz showcased their skills on the clay. Their friendly practice is significant, with both stars in opposite halves of the draw, setting the stage for a potential clash in next weekend’s final. The pair share a competitive history, with Djokovic leading their head-to-head series, 5-3.

“It’s always great to hit with someone of Carlos’ caliber. He’s a fantastic player and a good friend,” Djokovic said post-practice. “The atmosphere is incredible here in Monte-Carlo, and I’m looking forward to competing again.”

Alcaraz echoed Djokovic’s sentiment, saying, “Practicing with Novak is always inspiring. It motivates me to lift my game as we both prepare for what promises to be a thrilling tournament.” In the 2022 edition, Alcaraz lost in the opening match, making this year’s appearance crucial for his career trajectory.
