Dodgers Activate Pitcher Yoendrys Gomez Before Pirates Game

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed right-handed pitcher Yoendrys Gomez off waivers from the New York Yankees on Friday. A day later, they activated the 25-year-old ahead of Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In a corresponding move, the Dodgers optioned reliever Noah Davis to Triple-A Oklahoma City. This decision comes after Davis struggled with a 10.13 ERA over 2.2 innings pitched this season. He made an appearance against the Pirates on Friday and faced seven batters, striking out two and allowing one walk.
Gomez is expected to bolster the pitching staff for the defending champions. He had a 2.70 ERA in six appearances this season with the Yankees. Over 10 innings, he allowed three earned runs, registered five strikeouts, and issued nine walks.
Before joining the Dodgers, Gomez pitched effectively against the Cleveland Guardians, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over three innings this week. His addition to the roster aims to add depth to a bullpen in need of fresh arms.
Davis’s struggles led to his optioning after he appeared three times in four days. He gave up four runs (three earned) in his last outing, which included giving up a walk-off single in the 10th inning.
The Dodgers are looking to turn their performance around after previously enduring a three-game losing streak. The team hopes Gomez will provide a much-needed lift as they face off against the Pirates.
