Dodgers Force Game 7 with Stunning Defensive Plays in World Series
TORONTO — The Los Angeles Dodgers pulled off a thrilling 3-1 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 6 of the World Series on Friday night, tying the series at three games apiece and forcing a decisive Game 7 on Saturday.
Veteran infielder Miguel Rojas stepped up in a big way, making four spectacular defensive plays that helped secure the win. “Miggy played the heck out of second base and made some huge plays,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. Rojas, who is set to become a free agent, went into the game determined to extend his time with the team, expressing gratitude for the opportunity he received from the Dodgers back in 2013.
In a crucial moment in the ninth inning, Rojas made a jaw-dropping catch behind his knee as he fell to the ground, doubling up Toronto’s Addison Barger at second base. “I was coming in full speed… unbelievable pick by Miggy,” said outfielder Kiké Hernández, who made the throw to complete the double play.
The game turned in the third inning when the Dodgers scored three runs off Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman. Will Smith hit a double that brought in the Dodgers’ first run, followed by an RBI single from Mookie Betts, putting the Dodgers ahead 3-0.
Despite managing only four hits in the game, the Dodgers made the most of their opportunities, with Rojas’ defensive efforts keeping the Blue Jays at bay. Tokyo-born pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was impressive on the mound, allowing just one run over six innings.
With the series now tied, both teams prepare for a high-stakes Game 7. “Game 7. Amazing,” Hernandez said. “That’s what we dream of… It’s going to be electric.”
