Dodgers Struggle with Injuries as Season Progresses

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Dodgers are facing significant injury challenges as they aim to secure back-to-back championships this season. One of the key players affected, 2024 NLCS MVP Tommy Edman, has struggled since returning from the injured list, posting a batting average of just .148 compared to his pre-injury average of .252.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts addressed Edman’s difficulties, noting that his performance has declined even before his stint on the injured list (IL). “I think he wasn’t particularly in a good spot,” Roberts said. “There’s certainly a lot more chase below from Tommy. There are a couple little things he could potentially change to get him in a better spot.”
Before going on the IL, Edman’s stats were less than impressive, with a .211 batting average and an OPS of .694 over his last ten games. Despite having strong metrics, like ranking in the 88th percentile for launch angle, Edman has a below-average hard-hit percentage at just 42.7 percent.
<p“I think it’s swing mechanics. I don’t think it’s the health part,” Roberts added, stating that Edman appears to be healthy and that the organization looks to adjust his mechanics to regain his early-season effectiveness.
In addition to Edman, the Dodgers continue to support struggling players like Michael Conforto and Max Muncy amid the injury chaos. General manager Brandon Gomes has indicated that both players will remain part of the team efforts moving forward. “Our expectation is those guys are going to be a staple of the lineup for the rest of this season,” Gomes informed Sirius XM.
The situation is compounded by trade rumors regarding pitcher Paul Skenes from the Pittsburgh Pirates, as the Dodgers look for depth due to their current exhaustion in the rotation and bullpen. With Skenes boasting an impressive 2.15 ERA and 77 strikeouts this season, he remains a hot topic as rumors swirl around potential trades. However, Gomes has indicated that health and performance will remain a priority as the team navigates these challenges.
As the Dodgers work to overcome their injuries, they turn their focus on next games, hoping to find solutions within their roster and through possible trades.
