Draymond Green Claps Back at Kenyon Martin’s Critique on Podcast
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green responded to former NBA player Kenyon Martin‘s criticism during his latest podcast episode. Green addressed Martin’s comments on the ‘On the Rocks’ podcast, where Martin labeled him a ‘fake tough guy.’
During the discussion, Green, who is known for his tough demeanor on the court, explained why Martin’s remarks confused him. ‘I just don’t know how you continue to shoot at me when you underachieved,’ Green said. He highlighted Martin’s career statistics, stating, ‘You have one All-Star? Make no mistake about it, you are an All-Star. But to be the player that you were and not have a single All-Defensive Second Team? It’s kind of an underachievement.’
Green acknowledged Martin’s accolades but expressed skepticism about his critique given Martin did not secure numerous defensive honors during his career. ‘You would think someone that was the No. 1 pick didn’t quite have the career I’ve had when you talk Defensive Player of the Year or nine All-Defensive teams that I have,’ he said.
Despite wanting to maintain respect for past players, Green felt compelled to respond, noting that he has always supported Martin. ‘Just because somebody says something, I’m not just gonna jump out there and attack him or be responding,’ Green stated. ‘I’ve rooted for this guy for a very long time.’
In defending himself, Green refrained from directly addressing Martin’s ‘fake tough guy’ label but instead focused on his own achievements and the stakes of their careers. He ended with, ‘If I stop playing today, my career was better, way more impactful. Your resume got to be a little better to just keep taking shots.’
Martin has previously voiced his opinions on NBA players and, though he claimed to have respect for Green’s contributions to the Warriors, he stands by his critique. The back-and-forth illustrates the ongoing tension between the two former players.
