Dvsa Scam Text Message

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has issued an urgent warning to road users regarding a new scam involving text messages about fictitious parking penalties. This fraudulent activity comes amidst the ongoing cost of living crisis and targets drivers across the United Kingdom.

According to the DVSA, the scam texts alert recipients of a supposed ‘parking penalty charge’ due by September 30, 2024. The message claims that failure to pay the alleged fine on time could result in the vehicle being banned from the roads, incurring additional charges, or even court proceedings. It urges recipients to enter their vehicle licence plate information by following a provided link.

DVSA officials have clarified that the agency does not issue or manage parking fines, and drivers are urged not to click on any links contained within these messages. In a statement shared on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the DVSA stated: “We have not issued these messages. Don’t click on any links, you might be scammed.”

Individuals who have been deceived into providing personal information to scammers are advised to take immediate protective measures. Those who have suffered financial loss or have had their accounts compromised should report the incident immediately. Reports can be made to the appropriate authorities by contacting 0300 123 2040 for residents in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, or alternatively, Police Scotland by calling 101. Additionally, the National Cyber Security Centre accepts reports of such scam messages.

This notice serves as a reminder to remain vigilant against scams and to verify the legitimacy of any unexpected messages demanding payment or personal data. DVSA emphasized that recipients of the scam texts do not need to contact the agency and reiterated that parking fines are not within its remit.
