Eagles Clinch Home Game Amid Snow, Hurts’ Injury Concerns
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Philadelphia Eagles secured a home playoff game after defeating the Los Angeles Rams 24-17 in a snow-filled Divisional Round clash on Sunday. However, the victory came at a cost as quarterback Jalen Hurts appeared to injure his knee during the second half, raising concerns about his availability for next week’s game.
Hurts, who finished the game despite the injury, remained optimistic about his status. “Tough game, a challenging game,” Hurts said postgame. “I was able to finish the game. We’ll see how the week goes.” When pressed further, he expressed confidence in playing against the Washington Commanders next Sunday.
The Eagles’ quarterback endured a physically demanding game, completing 15 of 20 passes for 128 yards while being sacked seven times for a loss of 63 yards. His net passing total of 65 yards highlighted the Rams’ relentless pressure. Despite the struggles, Hurts delivered a 44-yard touchdown run early in the game, earning praise from head coach Nick Sirianni, who called him a “warrior.”
Running back Saquon Barkley emerged as the game’s standout performer, scoring two explosive touchdowns. His 62-yard run in the first half and a 78-yard dash in the fourth quarter sealed the Eagles’ victory. Barkley, in his first season with Philadelphia, has become a critical piece of the offense, especially with Hurts’ mobility in question.
“We love to start off fast, get some explosives, and pop some big-time plays in the second half,” Hurts said of Barkley’s contributions. “Rain, sleet, or snow, he’s been able to pound, pound, pound, and then take it off. That was fun.”
The Eagles will face the Washington Commanders next weekend in their third meeting this season. Barkley, who has embraced high-stakes moments, emphasized the significance of the upcoming game. “This is why I came to Philly … to be part of games like this,” he said. “The beautiful thing is they’ve got to go through Philly.”
With Hurts potentially limited, Barkley’s role could become even more pivotal as the Eagles aim to advance in the playoffs.
