Eagles Sign LB Joshua Uche in Bid to Bolster Pass Rush

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Philadelphia Eagles have signed linebacker Joshua Uche to a one-year deal, aiming to reinforce their pass rush following key player departures. This agreement, confirmed today, comes as the Eagles look to fill the void left by Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham.
Uche, a former second-round draft pick, joins Philadelphia after a tumultuous season with the Kansas City Chiefs where he struggled to make an impact. During his brief tenure in Kansas City, Uche appeared in six games and recorded only 10 total tackles, with no sacks, failing to establish a significant role.
“Pass-rush help for Philadelphia: Eagles reached agreement today on a one-year deal with former Chiefs free-agent LB Joshua Uche,” tweeted ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “Deal negotiated by Drew Rosenhaus and Kyle Lincoln.”
The Eagles’ move to secure Uche comes in light of their offseason roster changes, including the loss of key players such as Sweat, Milton Williams, and Darius Slay. Uche, who at 26 years old still possesses considerable upside, previously demonstrated his potential by achieving 11.5 sacks in the 2022 season.
After spending his rookie contract with the New England Patriots, where he had a modest impact, Uche was traded to the Chiefs during the 2024 season. In Kansas City, he played in a limited capacity, struggling to replicate the success he had previously achieved with the Patriots. Prior to his Chiefs tenure, Uche recorded two sacks and 13 tackles while playing as a situational defender in New England, but the team’s overall disappointing season culminated in his exit.
Despite his lack of production last season, the Eagles are optimistic about Uche’s potential to thrive in their defensive scheme. The Eagles, who ranked 18th in the NFL with 39 sacks last season, are hoping Uche can contribute significantly to enhancing their pass rush capabilities.
“We’re excited to have Josh join our squad,” said Eagles’ head coach. “He’s shown that he can make plays, and we believe he can fit well into our system.”
Uche will be tasked with revitalizing his career in Philadelphia as he looks to solidify his position on the Eagles’ roster, providing the necessary depth and talent to their defensive unit.
