Eight Dead in Blast Near Red Fort in New Delhi
New Delhi, India — A powerful explosion occurred near the Red Fort in New Delhi on November 10, 2025, killing at least eight people and injuring others, according to reports from local authorities.
The explosion happened around 6:30 PM near the Red Fort Metro Station’s Gate Number 1. Initial investigations suggest the blast originated from a car parked close to the metro station, causing a fire that engulfed six vehicles and three auto-rickshaws.
Delhi’s deputy fire chief confirmed that the explosion’s intensity shattered glass windows in nearby buildings. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud bang, which caused panic as crowds rushed to flee the area. Visuals showed thick smoke and flames rising from the wreckage.
Seven fire tenders were dispatched to the scene shortly after the explosion, and firefighters worked to extinguish the flames while rescuing trapped individuals. The Delhi Police cordoned off the area, and traffic was diverted around the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha stated that the explosion was caused by a slow-moving vehicle that stopped at a red light. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the explosion was an accident or a deliberate attack, with multiple agencies including the National Security Guard (NSG) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) potentially involved.
A high alert has been declared across the national capital and in Mumbai, with security measures intensified at key locations including metro stations and government buildings. Bomb disposal units and forensic teams have been deployed to assess the situation and gather evidence.
As of now, official confirmation on the number of casualties and further details is awaited from the authorities.
