Hopkinton Elections News Update

HOPKINTON, Massachusetts — No municipal or state election is taking place in Hopkinton today, even as neighboring areas hold their elections. Town Clerk Connor Degan clarified that municipal elections for towns are typically required to occur in the spring.

Degan explained how state elections only happen in even-numbered years, while city elections generally occur in the fall of odd-numbered years. He emphasized, “We just don’t have anything for the odd-numbered years unless there’s a special election.”

Several election workers reached out to Degan, expecting to assist at the polls. He attributed the confusion to extensive media coverage of elections taking place elsewhere. He noted, “[Elections are] picking up the regular news cycle but … won’t impact Hopkinton at all.”

Despite the lack of elections, Hopkinton schools are closed today for a professional development day. In other news, Hopkinton High School boys soccer recently celebrated a win over Methuen in the opening round of the Division 1 state tournament.

The latest real estate report indicated that eight homes sold in the past week, including one for $2.7 million. Additionally, Dave Menapace of The 5 Star Co-Host wrote about the importance of direct booking for rental operators.

The Select Board and Conservation Commission will hold their next monthly meeting on November 10 at the Hopkinton Public Library. Lastly, local 7-year-olds Annabel Bero and Isla Murray ran a successful apple cider stand last month, planning to donate most of their earnings to the Baypath Humane Society.
