Elias Pettersson Leads Vancouver Canucks to Overtime Victory
Elias Pettersson led the Vancouver Canucks to a thrilling overtime victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Pettersson scored a breakaway goal for his 22nd of the season and second of the game, securing the win. He became the third player in NHL history to score a game-winning goal in four consecutive games, joining the likes of Daniel Alfredsson.
Alongside Pettersson, Brock Boeser contributed with two goals, and J.T. Miller provided three assists. The Canucks have a remarkable winning record of 31-1-1 whenever Boeser and Pettersson both score. Coach Rick Tocchet praised the team’s resilience and ability to stay composed under pressure.
Sidney Crosby had a strong performance for the Penguins, scoring twice, including the tying goal with less than 30 seconds left in regulation. Crosby surpassed Mike Bossy on the NHL’s career goals list, now sitting in 22nd place with 574 goals. Pittsburgh‘s Marcus Pettersson also scored his first goal of the season.
Vancouver goaltender Thatcher Demko made 31 saves, securing the win for the Canucks. The team has been performing exceptionally well on their road trip and has points in 14 of their last 16 games overall.
The Canucks will play their sixth game of the road trip against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.
