Ella Purnell on Avoiding Video Game Adaptations After Arcane and Fallout
Ella Purnell, known for her roles as Jinx in the animated series Arcane and Lucy in the live-action series Fallout, has expressed her desire to avoid future video game adaptations to prevent being typecast. Speaking at MCM x EGX 2024, Purnell reflected on her unexpected success in landing roles in two highly acclaimed video game adaptations despite not being a gamer herself.
“Here’s the truth, and I feel guilty saying this, but I’m not a gamer, and I don’t know how I’ve managed to land two video game adaptations that have both been good,” Purnell said. “I don’t know how that’s happened, but it has. I don’t know the answer.”
Purnell’s concern is centered around the risk of being typecast as the “video game girl.” She emphasized, “I actually think I need to stay away from video game adaptations now, because I’m going to get typecast. I’m going to be the video game girl. There are worse things to be than that, I suppose.”
Despite her decision to steer clear of future video game adaptations, Purnell’s current projects are still ongoing. Arcane season 2 has recently concluded, with Purnell bidding an emotional goodbye to her character Jinx on Instagram. She expressed her gratitude to the fans and the experience of playing the character. Additionally, Fallout season 2 is currently in production, although no release date has been announced yet.
