Emirates Orders 65 Boeing 777-9s at Dubai Airshow, Valued at $38 Billion
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Emirates Airlines announced on Monday, November 17, 2025, that it has placed an order for 65 Boeing 777-9 aircraft during the opening day of the Dubai Airshow. This significant deal, valued at $38 billion at list prices, solidifies Emirates’ position as Boeing’s largest customer for wide-body jets.
The new order increases Emirates’ total commitment to the 777X family to 270 aircraft, as the airline continues to expand its fleet amidst growing demand. Emirates expects to take delivery of the new jets starting in 2027, despite ongoing delays in Boeing’s 777X program.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and CEO of Emirates, emphasized that this order reflects a strong commitment to U.S. aerospace manufacturing. He stated, “This is a massive long-term commitment that supports hundreds of thousands of high-value manufacturing jobs in the U.S.”
The Boeing 777-9 aircraft, designed to be the largest twin-engine jetliner, will also be powered by GE9X engines. This brings Emirates’ total order for these engines to 540 units, highlighting their sustained confidence in Boeing’s technology.
Despite the success of this order announcement, Emirates faces challenges with delays in Boeing’s 777X delivery schedule, which has been affected by certification hurdles and production issues. Analysts note that the delays place increasing pressure on Boeing’s leadership to stabilize operations and reassure customers.
In addition to the Boeing order, Emirates reported record pre-tax profits of $3.3 billion this fiscal year as passenger numbers continue to rise. The airline has remained proactive in enhancing passenger experiences, recently introducing Starlink high-speed internet service for travelers.
The Dubai Airshow is expected to feature significant commercial interest, as regional airlines look to modernize their fleets and expand operations. Boeing’s commitment to enhance its product lineup continues to draw attention as it seeks to compete with Airbus and its offerings.
