The Enigmatic Tower Bridge In 'poor Things' Sparks Fascination

Emma Stone‘s stellar performance in Yorgos Lanthimos‘s ‘Poor Things’ has captivated audiences, with a unique twist on the iconic Tower Bridge.

In this dreamlike London, Bella Baxter‘s story unfolds against a surreal backdrop, where Godwin Baxter’s pink mansion outshines reality, and airships drift through an alternate steampunk capital.

While Tower Bridge takes center stage, it’s not quite the familiar landmark – boasting the signature towers and blue-and-white paint, but featuring an imposing arched span reminiscent of the Tyne Bridge or Luís I Bridge.

Interestingly, this reinterpretation echoes Horace Jones’ original design for the bridge submitted in 1878, before Sir John Wolfe Barry revamped it into the structure we know today.

Lanthimos seems to transport viewers to a parallel London where Jones’ vision was realized, adding a whimsical touch to the cityscape.
