Brock Purdy 49ers Offseason Program

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy reported for the start of the team’s voluntary offseason program on Tuesday, despite ongoing contract negotiations. His presence marks a divergence from teammates like Nick Bosa and Brandon Aiyuk, who opted out of the program while working on new deals in previous years.

49ers general manager John Lynch praised Purdy, stating, “That’s Brock. He’s a pro. Brock’s very clear-minded and not going to let other people influence what he should be doing. That’s one thing everybody respects about Brock.” Lynch reaffirmed his eagerness to keep Purdy as the team’s quarterback for the foreseeable future, highlighting positive developments in contract discussions.

The offseason program’s first phase, focusing on meetings and conditioning, commenced Tuesday. Almost all players reported, including linebacker Fred Warner and running back Christian McCaffrey, who assured reporters he is fully recovered from injuries. Lynch expressed enthusiasm for the team’s togetherness, saying, “We need that shared sacrifice.”

Warner, who is seeking a contract extension despite having two years remaining on his deal, confirmed his happiness with his $22 million salary for the upcoming season. “I’m looking forward to having everybody back and building this thing up from ground zero,” Warner stated.

Star tight end George Kittle was absent on Tuesday, but Lynch indicated that Kittle’s absence might not be contract-related. Kittle has historically attended the offseason program later, typically during phases featuring on-field activities. He is also entering the final year of his contract, with hopes for a deal that matches his elite status as the NFL‘s top tight end. Currently, Kittle’s earnings for 2025 are set at around $15 million, trailing behind recent contracts for other top players in his position.

Lynch assured that Kittle’s situation is under control, noting that the offseason is voluntary and that communication with Kittle’s representatives remains positive. Kittle recently worked out with Purdy at his facility in Tennessee.

As the 49ers prepare for the upcoming NFL Draft, Lynch reported an increase in draftable talent this year, expanding from 170 to 200 players. The 49ers hold the 11th overall pick, and while there is interest in trading back to acquire more picks, Lynch stated such opportunities may be limited.

Defensive linemen are a priority in the draft as the 49ers aim to fill significant gaps in their roster. Lynch emphasized the importance of players capable of effectively defending against the run. As speculation around potential draft strategies continues, he remarked that the unpredictable nature of the draft makes it difficult to have concrete plans.
