AAP Accuses BJP and CBI of Conspiracy Against Arvind Kejriwal
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has publicly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for what it perceives as a coordinated effort to keep Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal incarcerated in connection with the excise policy case.
No immediate comments were received from the CBI or BJP regarding AAP’s allegations.
Senior AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Atishi, claim that the CBI requested additional time from the Supreme Court to prepare a response to Kejriwal’s bail petition, while simultaneously releasing information to the media.
According to Sisodia, the CBI stated in court that it needed 14 more days to finalize its reply regarding the bail application. However, on the same day, the CBI’s response was disseminated to the media, resulting in its coverage as a prominent news headline.
He accused the CBI of acting under BJP directives, stating, “The CBI is dancing like a puppet on the BJP instructions to keep Arvind Kejriwal in jail.”
Sisodia expressed confidence that the ongoing conspiracies for “headline management” would ultimately fail, asserting that truth would prevail and that justice remains aligned with the Constitution.
On August 23, the Supreme Court postponed the hearing of Kejriwal’s bail plea until September 5, as the agency requested more time to file its affidavit.
Kejriwal has submitted two separate petitions challenging both the refusal of bail and his arrest by the CBI in this case.
In its affidavit responding to Kejriwal’s challenge, the CBI alleged that the significant decisions regarding the now-defunct excise policy were made at Kejriwal’s directive in collaboration with then Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
Atishi, another senior AAP leader and current Delhi minister, reiterated AAP’s stance, claiming that the CBI misled the Supreme Court in order to prolong Kejriwal’s incarceration.
She questioned how the CBI, which requested a week for its affidavit during the court hearing, could see its response published in media outlets the very next day.
Atishi emphasized that despite BJP’s efforts, the truth will eventually surface, citing Manish Sisodia’s case as an example of justice being served despite CBI and ED’s interventions.
She affirmed AAP’s belief that Kejriwal would soon be released from jail, dismissing the assertions of conspiracy by the BJP through the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate as ineffectual.
Kejriwal faces legal challenges stemming from his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in relation to a money laundering case tied to the excise policy. He received bail from the trial court on June 20, but the Delhi High Court overturned that decision the following day.
Following this, Kejriwal approached the Supreme Court on June 22, but was arrested on June 26 by the CBI as part of the ongoing investigation.
Previously, on July 11, the Supreme Court granted him bail in the money laundering case initiated by the ED.
