Accreditation Revoked for Canadian Coach Amid New Concerns
PARIS (August 5, 2024) – In unexpected news coming from the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), the accreditation for coach Rana Reider has been revoked during the ongoing Paris 2024 Games.
Initially, Reider was given accreditation as a personal coach which allowed him access to the athletics warm-up area and training venues. This decision was based on the fact that his probation with the U.S. Center for SafeSport came to an end in May this year and that he had not faced any other suspensions or sanctions.
However, on Sunday, August 4th, the COC received new information concerning Reider’s eligibility to remain accredited. Following discussions with Athletics Canada, they agreed to revoke his credentials.
The COC chose not to elaborate on what this new information was, but recent reports from UK media suggest it relates to serious safeguarding concerns and allegations of sexual and emotional abuse. Court documents from Broward County, Florida indicate that three women have filed a lawsuit against him.
It’s worth noting that these allegations have not been proven in court, and Reider has not been charged with any crime. Nevertheless, the decision to revoke his accreditation highlights ongoing issues surrounding athlete safety.
