Actor Minu Muneer Alleges Sexual Misconduct in Malayalam Film Industry
Thiruvananthapuram, August 26, 2024 – Actor Minu Muneer has publicly alleged that she faced multiple incidents of sexual misconduct within the Malayalam film industry. These allegations come a day after the Chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and the General Secretary of the actors’ association resigned from their positions due to similar allegations.
In a media briefing, Muneer named several actors, including Mukesh, Jayasurya, Maniyanpilla Raju, and Edavela Babu, who is a prominent leader of the Association of Malayalam Movies Artistes (AMMA). While Raju expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation, Mukesh, Jayasurya, and Babu have yet to respond to the claims.
Muneer recounted her experiences, stating that during the filming of ‘Calender’ (2009) and ‘Nadakame Ulakam’ (2011), one actor attempted to assault her. She described an incident in which the actor entered her hotel room and made inappropriate advances, suggesting that she consider relationships for future opportunities.
Further allegations included another actor who allegedly propositioned her while they were traveling in a car. Muneer claimed that he knocked on her door later that night. In a separate incident from 2008, an actor reportedly grabbed her from behind and kissed her when she was returning from a restroom on a film set.
Muneer also detailed an incident from 2013, in which she sought membership in AMMA. During a phone conversation regarding her application, the individual invited her to his apartment, where he allegedly made an unwanted advance while she was filling out her application.
As a result of these troubling experiences, Muneer stated that she felt compelled to leave the Malayalam film industry and relocate to Chennai. She expressed her desire for justice and accountability regarding the trauma she has endured.
