Actress Laide Bakare Fined for Traffic Offence by Lagos Police Amid Controversy

Actress Laide Bakare was stopped by the Lagos State Police for violating traffic laws and fined for the offence, according to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer.

The incident occurred on the Ikorodu Expressway where Bakare’s car was stopped by the police for allegedly driving on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Lane.

Bakare expressed her frustration on Instagram, accusing the police of forcefully entering her car and driving away with her 14-year-old daughter.

She described the experience as brutal, highlighting the need for better treatment of Nigerians by law enforcement.

She claimed that the police targeted her for exploitation, alleging that they demanded N70,000 from her through her ATM card.

In response, SP Benjamin Hundeyin clarified that Bakare disobeyed traffic laws and opted to pay the N70,000 fine as punishment for driving on the BRT lane.

He stated that Bakare created a scene during the incident and failed to comply with the officers’ instructions, leading to the fine being issued.

The actress was instructed to make the payment at the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) office and left with a receipt for the transaction.

Hundeyin emphasized that Bakare’s vehicle was returned to her without any physical altercation, and she was not mistreated during the process.

The clarification from the police came following Bakare’s social media post, shedding light on the sequence of events that transpired during the traffic stop.

The incident involving the popular actress has sparked discussions on traffic enforcement practices and interactions between motorists and law enforcement in Lagos.
