Afghanistan and India to Face Off in T20 World Cup Semi-Finals
Following a thrilling conclusion to the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup 2024, the semi-finalists have been decided. Group 2 leaders, South Africa, will take on Afghanistan in the first semi-final, while India, the leader of Group 1, will clash with England in the second semi-final.
The semi-finals playing conditions stipulate that the second semi-final between India and England will not have a reserve day due to the tight schedule. India’s semi-final match, scheduled for June 27, will begin at 8 PM Indian Standard Time.
The first semi-final between South Africa and Afghanistan is set to begin on June 26 at 8:30 PM IST. South Africa and Afghanistan will face each other at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago for their semi-final match.
India and England will lock horns in the second semi-final on June 27 at 10:30 AM IST. The venue for this high-octane clash will be the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
Each semi-final has been allocated additional time totaling 250 minutes. The first semi-final will have 60 extra minutes available on the day of play and an additional 190 minutes on the reserve day, starting at 2 PM local time. On the other hand, the second semi-final will have 250 minutes available on the scheduled day.
In the semi-finals and final, both teams are required to bat a minimum of 10 overs per inning, unlike the earlier stages that required only five overs per inning. This rule becomes crucial due to the forecasted rain in both venues. According to the playing conditions, should a washout occur, the team that finished higher in their respective Super Eight groups — India and South Africa — will progress.
To purchase tickets online for the semi-finals, fans can visit the ICC’s official ticketing website. Tickets are available at various price points ranging from $55 to $800. The semi-final matches will offer fans an electrifying display of cricket as the teams battle it out for a spot in the grand finale at Kensington Oval Stadium in Barbados on June 29.
