Afghanistan Secures First Semifinal Berth In T20 World Cup 2024

Afghanistan has secured a historic place in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating Bangladesh in a thrilling encounter. This marks the first time Afghanistan has reached the semifinals of an ICC tournament.

The Afghan players showcased a brilliant performance, first defeating Australia convincingly. The strategy behind Afghanistan’s victories has been the fantastic contribution of their bowlers, with fast bowler Naveen-ul Haq taking crucial wickets and leading the team to victory.

In the first semifinal match, South Africa will face Afghanistan at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday, 27th June at 6 AM IST. The second semifinal will see India clash with England at the Guyana National Stadium at 8 PM IST on the same day.

South Africa, topping Group 2 in the Super Eight stage, is aiming to maintain their unbeaten record against Afghanistan at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago. On the other hand, Afghanistan’s victory over Bangladesh in the Super Eight’s final match secured their place in the last four.

India will compete against the current T20 World Cup champions, England, in the second semifinal to be played in Guyana, showcasing a clash of titans. India secured their spot in the semifinals by defeating Australia earlier this week.

The ICC has not kept any reserve days for the semifinal matches. If rain disrupts play, India is likely to advance to the final based on their higher standing over England in the points table.

Fans in India can catch live coverage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals and final on Star Sports Network. The live streaming of the semifinals and final will be available for free on the Disney+Hotstar app in India.
