Afl Finals 2024 Schedule

The Australian Football League (AFL) has officially announced the schedule for the first week of the 2024 finals series, with the highly anticipated match between Port Adelaide and Geelong set to open the competition on September 5.

In a significant development, Hawthorn will return to Friday night football for the first time in two years, while the Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions will host crucial finals matches on the following Saturday.

After a pre-finals bye, the action kicks off at Adelaide Oval, where the second qualifying final will take place at 7:40 PM. The Western Bulldogs will face Hawthorn in the second elimination final at the MCG on September 6, marking both teams’ participation in this year’s finals series.

On September 7, the first qualifying final will see the Sydney Swans take on their cross-town rivals, the Greater Western Sydney Giants, at the SCG. In addition, the Brisbane Lions will host the Carlton Blues at the Gabba in the first elimination final.

Carlton’s inclusion in the finals was made possible after their competitors, including Fremantle and Collingwood, were unable to secure a position in the top eight. This year’s finals promise excitement, with both the Lions and Blues eager to prove their mettle after last season’s near misses.

In week two of the finals, the loser of the Port Adelaide-Geelong clash will host the winner of the Bulldogs-Hawthorn match. Additionally, the loser of the Sydney-GWS game will face the winner of the Brisbane-Carlton encounter, with venues and times to be confirmed following week one.

The schedule for the upcoming finals series reflects the competitive nature of the AFL, and all eyes will undoubtedly be on the matches as teams vie for a spot in the grand final scheduled for September 28 at the MCG.
