AFL forward Jeremy Finlayson recently shared the ongoing battle his wife, Kellie Finlayson, is facing against bowel and lung cancer. Kellie, who was diagnosed with the disease after the birth of their daughter Sophia, has been courageously fighting the illness for over two years.

Despite undergoing surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy, Kellie’s initial stage three diagnosis has progressed to stage four. In a recent update, Jeremy revealed that Kellie has decided to discontinue chemotherapy after commencing another round in January.

Reportedly, Kellie, a mother and social media influencer, has turned to alternative cancer treatment methods in her pursuit of hope and healing.

Kellie has previously noted that while chemotherapy and alternative therapies have helped slow the cancer’s spread, the toll on her health, including early menopause, has been significant. She expressed the heartache of potentially being unable to provide siblings for Sophia, as they had planned for a larger family.

Despite the challenges, Kellie has maintained a positive outlook, hoping to experience significant life milestones, including her daughter’s 21st birthday.

Earlier this month, Jeremy faced scrutiny after receiving a three-week ban for using a derogatory remark towards an Essendon player during a match at Gather Round in Adelaide. The incident was captured by on-field microphones and Jeremy took responsibility by self-reporting and later apologizing for his actions.

Expressing deep remorse, Jeremy shared his ongoing struggle with the repercussions of his actions, especially as Kellie continues her fight against cancer. He emphasized the importance of educating their daughter about accountability and learning from mistakes.

Jeremy, reflecting on his actions, expressed regret and acknowledged the hurt caused by his words, particularly to the LGBTQ+ community. He emphasized his efforts to apologize and make amends with those affected by his harmful language.
