AFL Tribunal: Mixed Outcomes for GWS Giants Stars Hogan and Greene
The AFL Tribunal on Tuesday delivered mixed verdicts for GWS Giants players Jesse Hogan and Toby Greene, with one ban upheld and another overturned.
After a contentious hearing, Hogan was cleared to play following the striking charge against him, which was dismissed by the panel. On the contrary, Toby Greene’s one-match suspension for rough conduct stood, meaning he will be sidelined for the upcoming game against Brisbane.
Represented by Anais d’Arville, the Giants pleaded Hogan’s case by arguing that the impact on Carlton‘s Lewis Young was negligible, leading to the dismissal of the charge. However, Greene’s actions in a collision with Carlton’s Jordan Boyd were deemed unreasonable, resulting in a one-match ban.
During the hearings, Hogan expressed his confusion and surprise at the charges against him, stating that the contact with Young was unintentional. Greene, on the other hand, defended his actions, claiming he was focused solely on contesting the ball before contact was made.
Despite the contrasting outcomes, both players expressed their relief at the hearings’ conclusion, with Hogan appreciative of the fairness of the process and Greene accepting the Tribunal’s decision with grace.
