Akhilesh Yadav on Course to Reclaim Kannauj Bastion, India Today-Axis My India Exit Poll Shows
The India Today-Axis My India exit poll results indicate a favorable outcome for Akhilesh Yadav in the Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency, a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party since 1998. The survey forecasts Akhilesh Yadav’s potential victory over the BJP candidate and incumbent MP Subrat Pathak.
Historically significant, Kannauj witnessed a shift in the 2019 elections when Subrat Pathak narrowly defeated Dimple Yadav, the wife of Akhilesh Yadav, by a margin of 12,000 votes. Akhilesh Yadav, who had previously represented Kannauj, aims to reclaim the seat which holds familial importance, having been held by his father, Mulayam Singh Yadav, thrice.
Following Akhilesh Yadav’s tenure, his wife, Dimple Yadav, secured victory in a bypoll and the subsequent 2014 elections. However, she faced defeat in 2019 against Subrat Pathak. In the 2014 polls, Dimple Yadav emerged victorious with Subrat Pathak as the runner-up and the Bahujan Samaj Party‘s Nirmal Tiwari in third place.
