Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sarfira’ Records Low Opening Day Collection, Faces Tough Competition from Kamal Haasan’s ‘Indian 2’
Akshay Kumar‘s latest film ‘Sarfira‘, directed by Sudha Kongara, hit theaters on Friday but faced a tough battle at the box office against Kamal Haasan‘s ‘Indian 2‘. Despite high expectations, ‘Sarfira’ recorded a low opening day collection, earning approximately Rs 2.40 crore net in India on its first day.
The film, which features Radhika Madan, Paresh Rawal, and Seema Biswas, with a guest appearance by Suriya, revolves around the inspiring story of Captain Gopinath, the founder of India’s first low-cost airline. ‘Sarfira’ is a Hindi remake of the 2020 Tamil hit ‘Soorarai Pottru’, directed by Sudha Kongara.
Early estimates suggest that Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sarfira’ faced stiff competition from Kamal Haasan’s ‘Indian 2’, which scored an impressive Rs 26 crore nett opening in India. The movie is expected to have gross collections ranging between Rs 30-31 crore, with its Hindi dubbed version earning around Rs 1.25 crore.
Despite the tough competition, Akshay Kumar, a prominent figure in Bollywood, was hoping to make a strong comeback with ‘Sarfira’. However, the opening day numbers place it among his lowest opening day collections in recent years. The film saw gradual growth in occupancy throughout the day, with morning shows recording around 7.03% occupancy.
Directed by Sudha Kongara, ‘Sarfira’ narrates the transformative impact of Captain Gopinath on Indian aviation. The original film, ‘Soorarai Pottru’, won five National Awards, including Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Film, showcasing the critical acclaim it received.
The film’s performance has been closely watched by industry analysts and Bollywood enthusiasts. The Times of India Entertainment Desk covers the latest developments in the entertainment world, bringing readers exclusive insights and updates on the box office performance of ‘Sarfira’.
