Alan Cumming and Ari Shapiro’s New ‘Och & Oy! A Considered Cabaret’ Tour
Broadway star Alan Cumming and National Public Radio (NPR) host Ari Shapiro have collaborated to create a unique musical experience with their show, «Och & Oy! A Considered Cabaret.» Described as a «whimsical night of mirth and mayhem,» the cabaret is aimed at showcasing both performers’ musical talents alongside their storytelling abilities. This innovative production combines elements of theater and music to provide audiences with insights into themselves and the world around them.
The collaboration between Cumming and Shapiro began as an idea sparked by their mutual admiration and the chemistry they discovered during previous interviews and social encounters. Alan Cumming noted, «I’ve come to know Ari over the last few years, both socially and when he interviewed me for several events. The last time was an evening in D.C., and by the end of it, I realized our chemistry, the unusual combo of us, and Ari’s amazing voice would make for a really great cabaret show.»
Ari Shapiro echoed Cumming’s enthusiasm, stating, «When Alan first suggested that we create a show together, I didn’t quite believe him. Then as we started to dig into this collaboration, I realized how much our professional lives actually complement each other. We’re both storytellers who try to help audiences better understand themselves and the world around them. This show lets us explore those shared ideals on stage together, through stories and songs.»
The duo’s show has been staged in several locations, including a few seasons in Provincetown. Their upcoming performance at The Cabot in Beverly, Massachusetts, marks another chapter in touring this celebrated production. The historical Cabot Theatre, a North Shore landmark, adds an element of historic showmanship and architectural grandeur to their performance. Tickets for the event are priced between $69.00 and $114.50.
