Ali Brigginshaw Replaces Zehara Temara in Queensland Line-Up for Women’s State of Origin Match
Queensland’s halfback and vice-captain, Zahara Temara, has been relegated to the reserves for the crucial second Women’s State of Origin clash, making way for the seasoned campaigner, Ali Brigginshaw.
The Queensland Maroons team, under the guidance of coach Tahnee Norris, has undergone significant changes to their right edge after a disappointing performance in the series opener last month. This reshuffle sees Temara as the 18th player for the upcoming match, while winger Emily Bass has been omitted from the squad.
Brigginshaw, who was previously playing at lock in the first game, will now take on the role of halfback, with debutant Sienna Lofipo filling in her original position. Evania Pelite, who featured in the centers in the previous match, has been shifted to cover Bass’s vacant wing, while Lauren Brown has been promoted to the starting lineup.
During a media briefing, Maroons assistant coach Nathan Cross disclosed that Tamika Upton would assume the vice-captaincy on the field, while Temara would retain the vice-captain role on the bench.
Cross highlighted Brigginshaw’s wealth of experience, emphasizing that her presence was crucial for the Maroons. He underscored Brigginshaw’s adaptability, selflessness, and understanding of the demands of the game, especially in high-stakes matches like the State of Origin.
Temara, despite being dropped from the primary squad, played a significant role in training by simulating the strategies of their opposition, NSW, showcasing exceptional dedication and professionalism, as praised by Cross.
The Maroons are gearing up for a challenging encounter in the Women’s State of Origin series, with the second match set to test their revamped lineup against formidable opponents. Fans can catch all the action live on Nine and NRL platforms.
