Alix Earle Responds to Past Offensive Comments and Trademark Claims
Social media personality Alix Earle has recently addressed allegations regarding her past use of offensive comments on the question-and-answer platform Askfm. In a statement shared via her Instagram story, Earle acknowledged that she had used a racial slur on the site in the summer of 2014 and expressed remorse for her actions.
Earle stated, «A couple of weeks ago, screenshots surfaced from my old ask.fm account showing me using a slur in the summer of 2014. I am taking accountability and want to make it clear that I was 13 years old and did not understand the deeply offensive meaning behind that word. That is no excuse for using that word in any context or at any age. That is absolutely not the way I speak or what I stand for.»
Furthermore, Earle extended her apology to those hurt by her words, asserting that the beliefs expressed in those comments do not reflect her current views. She added, «I am deeply sorry that my words have hurt many and have led people to believe that I have any prejudice in my heart. I promise you that could not be further from the truth.»
The controversy escalated as screenshots of her past comments re-emerged on platforms such as TikTok and Reddit. They were initially linked to a subreddit associated with the podcast hosted by Jessi Smiles and Lily Marston. Following this, Earle’s legal team reached out to the podcast hosts claiming copyright violations.
<pSmiles reported in a podcast episode that Earle's lawyer stated they have a trademark concerning her past comments and that the hosts were infringing upon this trademark. They clarified, however, that they have no control over the subreddit in question.
In her statement, Earle denied the rumors surrounding the trademarking of her old posts, calling these claims «absolutely ridiculous and untrue.» She emphasized that her silence on the matter had allowed false rumors to proliferate, and she regretted her delayed response.
The hosts of the podcast noted their receipt of an email from an entity claiming to represent Earle, which included allegations of various legal violations related to the posts on the subreddit. They mentioned that the notice seemed to suggest Earle was unaware of this email being sent.
