Amazon Launches Online Storefront in South Africa, Offers Local Customers Fast Delivery Service
Amazon has silently unveiled its new online retail platform in South Africa, providing local customers with access to a wide range of products and swift delivery services. Led by Robert Koen, the managing director for Sub-Saharan Africa, Amazon’s roots in Cape Town stretch back to the establishment of AWS by Chris Pinkham in 2006.
Amazon in the US is known for its Prime service that offers various perks including free two-day shipping on select items, Prime Video streaming, Prime Music access, and more. While the Prime service details for South Africa remain undisclosed, Amazon is testing its logistical infrastructure with its current product offering.
South African clients can now enjoy free shipping on their first order at Amazon.co.za, with subsequent orders above R500 qualifying for free delivery. The new platform provides a hassle-free shopping experience, offering same-day and next-day delivery options along with over 3,000 pickup locations.
Prime features such as free access to Amazon Prime Video and Prime Music, as well as exclusive content available to US customers, are yet to be fully detailed for the South African market. Notably, popular Amazon devices like the Kindle e-readers are not yet listed on Amazon.co.za.
