American Missionaries Killed in Haiti Gang Attack: Tragedy Strikes Oklahoma-Based Group
An Oklahoma-based missionary group working in Haiti‘s capital faced a tragic attack by gangs, resulting in the deaths of American missionaries. The daughter of a Missouri state representative, Natalie Lloyd, and her husband David Lloyd III, were among the casualties, as confirmed by the organization’s founder Alicia Lloyd.
Alicia Lloyd revealed that her son, David Lloyd III, and his wife Natalie were brutally attacked by gangs, leading to their untimely deaths. The identity of the third individual killed in the heinous incident remains undisclosed.
The situation escalated when the missionaries, along with a longstanding Haitian employee, sought shelter in one of the organization’s buildings as gangs besieged the compound. Despite attempts to negotiate and secure their safety, the missionaries ultimately fell victim to the violence.
Haiti, plagued by prolonged turmoil and escalating gang control, has been grappling with unprecedented levels of violence following the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in 2021. The recent incident adds to the country’s grim statistics, with the United Nations citing over 2,500 individuals affected by gang violence in the first quarter of 2024.
Expressing condolences, a spokesperson for the National Security Council affirmed President Joe Biden‘s support for multinational efforts aimed at stabilizing Haiti and safeguarding its populace amidst the prevailing chaos.
The tragic loss of David and Natalie Lloyd underscores the dangers faced by humanitarian workers in volatile regions like Haiti. Their unwavering dedication to aiding the Haitian people, despite the risks, reflects a profound commitment to service and compassion.
