In a disappointing turn of events for Indian boxing, Amit Panghal has been knocked out of the Paris Olympics on July 30. Competing in the men’s 51kg flyweight category, Panghal faced off against Zambia‘s Patrick Chinyemba in the Round of 16.

Panghal started the match with high hopes and an aggressive approach but struggled to find his rhythm from the very beginning. Despite being in the blue corner of the North Paris Arena, he couldn’t land significant punches and fell behind early on.

His coach urged him to adjust his strategy after the first round, but unfortunately, those changes didn’t help much. By the second round, things went from bad to worse. The taller Zambian opponent used his reach advantage effectively, keeping Panghal at bay and landing blows that left Panghal trailing even further.

In a show of determination, Panghal came out swinging in the final round, hoping to win over the judges. He threw a flurry of punches, including left jabs and right hooks, in an effort to turn the match around. However, Chinyemba maintained his composure and kept his distance, successfully dodging most of Panghal’s attacks.

The bout ended with Panghal losing by a score of 1-4, marking yet another heartbreak for the boxer, who had also exited during the Tokyo Olympics. The former world number one and 2019 world championship silver medallist will surely have to reflect on this defeat as he looks ahead to future competitions.
