ANC Mandla Ndlovu Elected as Premier of Mpumalanga
The African National Congress (ANC) member Mandla Ndlovu has been elected as the new premier of Mpumalanga during a session of the provincial legislature.
Ndlovu’s nomination for the position was uncontested. Following the general elections on May 29, where the ANC secured a majority of 51.15% of the provincial vote, with the uMkhonto Wesizwe Party and the EFF coming in second and third respectively.
Mandla Ndlovu takes over from Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane, who assumed office in 2018. Prior to this appointment, Ndlovu held the role of Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works, Roads, and Transport in the province.
In his acceptance speech, Ndlovu expressed gratitude for the opportunity, pledging to continue and enhance the work of his predecessors. He specifically acknowledged and recognized the efforts of former premiers such as Matthews Phosa and Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane.
