ANC MP Marshall Dlamini Convicted for Assault
Marshall Dlamini, an African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament, has been convicted of assault following an incident involving journalist Pasha Dlakavu. The assault took place in the National Assembly in 2019, resulting in Dlamini being found guilty by the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
The altercation occurred during a live television broadcast, where Dlamini was seen physically engaging with Dlakavu, leading to widespread condemnation and calls for accountability within the political sphere.
Dlamini’s conviction comes after a lengthy legal process, during which he maintained his innocence, claiming that his actions were in self-defense. Despite this, the court ruled in favor of the prosecution, highlighting the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring the protection of journalists in their line of work.
