Annual Clear the Shelter Event Encourages Pet Adoption
TYLER, Texas – The Clear the Shelter event, an annual initiative aimed at promoting pet adoption, took place at Stanley’s Famous Pit BBQ on August 24. This event encouraged community involvement in alleviating the challenges faced by local animal shelters.
Organized by Nicholas Pet Haven, a nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare, the event saw many foster families bringing their pets for adoption. Adoption fees were waived to encourage more attendees to consider bringing home a new furry friend.
Melissa Stelzer, a foster parent involved with Nicholas Pet Haven, emphasized the importance of such events, stating, «It’s really good to try to clear these shelters, because to me, rescue dogs are the best dogs, and there’s so many that need homes right now.»
During the event, the organization aimed to raise awareness about the ongoing animal welfare crisis, with an emphasis on the need for more foster families, donations, and community support.
Cindy Nash, founder of Nicholas Pet Haven, remarked on the urgency of the situation, noting the surge in stray and abandoned pets and the significant gap in community involvement required to address these issues.
The Clear the Shelter campaign, which began on August 10 and will continue until September 10, is a nationwide initiative that underscores the importance of animal adoption and fostering.
