Annual Closing Activity Temporarily Takes Down Sbi Online Platforms

State Bank of India (SBI) customers faced a temporary disruption in online services today as the bank conducted its Annual Closing activity. The affected platforms included Internet Banking, YONO Lite, YONO Business Web, YONO, and UPI, which were unavailable for several hours on April 1, 2024.

The bank issued a statement noting that the disruption occurred between 12:20 Hrs IST and 15:20 Hrs IST on April 1. As a result, customers were advised to leverage alternative services like UPI Lite and ATM during the downtime.

Furthermore, SBI had cautioned its customers in advance to refrain from conducting National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) transactions on the same day. This anticipation was due to the expected delays in services caused by financial year-end procedures.

Across India, several states observed bank holidays on April 1 for the annual closing. While most states were affected, some exceptions included Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, and West Bengal. The turnover to the new financial year 2024-25 warranted banks to focus on completing fiscal year-end formalities.

Notably, SBI recently updated its annual maintenance charges for various categories of debit cards starting from April 1. The modifications will impact Classic, Silver, Global, Contactless, Yuva, Gold, Combo, and Platinum Debit Cards. Additionally, changes were made to the fees associated with issuing and replacing debit cards, as well as certain adjustments to credit card charges.

In terms of digital banking growth, SBI stands out as the largest commercial bank in India. The bank reported significant numbers, including 125 million Internet banking users, 133 million mobile banking users, and over 7.05 crore registered users on its integrated digital platform, YONO. Q3 FY24 saw 33.1 lakh new registrations on YONO, showcasing the bank’s continuous evolution in digital banking.
