AOC Rallies for Harris at DNC
New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took center stage at the Democratic National Convention on Monday, passionately advocating for Vice President Kamala Harris. She praised Harris’s commitment to tackling what she calls ‘corporate greed.’
In her speech, Ocasio-Cortez shared her story of growing up working class, comparing it to Harris’s own background. She mentioned her days as a waitress in New York, when she struggled without health insurance and her family faced foreclosure.
Ocasio-Cortez emphasized the importance of that shared experience, saying it’s those roots that make Harris dedicated to helping the middle class. ‘She is for the middle class because she is from the middle class,’ Ocasio-Cortez stated.
The crowd at the DNC welcomed her enthusiastically, chanting ‘AOC’ as she walked onto the stage. Her loudest applause came when she spoke about Harris’s efforts to secure a cease-fire in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Ocasio-Cortez also took a moment to thank Harris and her running mate Tim Walz for their vision for the future, while giving a nod to Joe Biden for his leadership.
In her speech, Ocasio-Cortez didn’t hold back on criticizing former President Donald Trump. She argued that his actions show he doesn’t really care about the country as he prioritizes Wall Street and big businesses over the needs of everyday Americans.
