Apple has made an unexpected announcement, allowing users to transfer their playlists from Apple Music to YouTube Music. This move marks a significant shift in Apple’s traditionally insular approach, providing a native tool for this functionality for the first time.

The transfer process enables users to move playlists they have created, including collaborative playlists. However, it is important to note that non-collaborative shared playlists and curated playlists are not eligible for transfer. Moreover, the transfer only includes songs available on YouTube Music, and as such, actual audio files such as podcasts, audiobooks, and user-uploaded tracks will not be included.

After completing the transfer, the playlists will seamlessly appear in the user’s Library tab within YouTube Music. If a transfer is canceled midway through the process, any playlists that have already been transferred will remain in the new platform.

To initiate the transfer, users need to access Apple’s support site and sign in to their Apple ID account. They must select the option to transfer a copy of their data and follow the on-screen instructions. It is crucial for users to have active subscriptions to both Apple Music and YouTube Music to take advantage of this service.

This development offers a more user-friendly approach for individuals considering a switch from Apple Music to YouTube Music, reflecting a remarkable change in Apple’s policy regarding data transfer between services.
