The Arizona State football team commenced its season with a commanding performance against the Wyoming Cowboys on Saturday, August 31, at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe.

ASU football established an early lead, intercepting the first pass of the game and returning it for a touchdown. This swift action provided the Sun Devils with a 7-0 advantage less than a minute into the contest.

Defensive standout Zyrus Fiaseu executed a 29-yard interception return, marking one of two defensive touchdowns in the game for ASU, amplifying their momentum as they seized control of the match.

The Sun Devils showcased their dominance, holding Wyoming to merely 118 total yards throughout the game, while amassing an impressive 499 yards of total offense themselves. ASU secured 27 first downs against just eight for the Cowboys.

The time of possession further illustrated ASU’s control of the game, maintaining the ball for 37 minutes and 4 seconds compared to Wyoming’s 22 minutes and 56 seconds. Quarterback Sam Leavitt concluded the game with a noteworthy stat line of 14 completions on 22 attempts for 258 yards and two touchdowns, while also contributing 47 yards on the ground.

Wyoming did manage to score late in the game with backup quarterback Kaden Anderson completing a short pass to Chris Durr Jr., but the final score reflected a decisive victory for ASU at 48-7.

Arizona State’s rushing attack was also productive, accumulating 241 yards with no single player exceeding 49 rushing yards. Running backs Cam Skattebo and DeCarlos Brooks each recorded a rushing touchdown, showcasing a collective effort amongst the Sun Devil backfield.

The Sun Devils’ defensive unit was particularly effective, forcing three turnovers in total, with two of those resulting in touchdowns. This marked a stark improvement compared to their previous season, where the team struggled significantly on the defensive side.

The first half concluded with ASU leading 27-0, underscoring their proficient execution and strategic planning throughout the match.
