Arkansas Razorbacks Dominates UAPB in Season Opener
LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Razorbacks have kicked off their 2024 season with a commanding performance against the Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions. The Razorbacks scored touchdowns on all seven of their offensive possessions in the first two quarters, taking a decisive 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Despite the presence of many empty seats at War Memorial Stadium, the fans who attended witnessed an impressive display of skill and teamwork from the Razorbacks. Notable contributors to the success on the ground included Ja’Quinden Jackson and Taylen Green, both of whom recorded two rushing touchdowns, along with Rodney Hill who also contributed one touchdown.
Defensively, the Razorbacks were just as strong, limiting UAPB to a mere 76 total yards and securing three sacks throughout the game. The second half was modified to feature only 10-minute quarters, again highlighting the dominance of Arkansas.
At halftime, Arkansas held a commanding lead of 49-0. The first half execution by the team was nearly flawless, with the Razorbacks amassing a total offense of 444 yards compared to UAPB’s 76. Taylen Green showcased his ability, accounting for 317 yards and four touchdowns in the first half, while completing 16 of 23 passes.
Additionally, Ja’Quinden Jackson rushed for 101 yards on eight carries, scoring two touchdowns. As the game progressed into the second half, Braylen Russell marked his first career touchdown with a 9-yard run, capping a successful drive led by Malachi Singleton who completed three passes for 54 yards.
The Razorbacks’ performance raises expectations for the remainder of the season, as they will need to build on this momentum against tougher opponents. Weather conditions during the game were forecasted to be cloudy, with temperatures around 90 degrees at kickoff, gradually falling to the low 80s as the evening progressed.
