Arrests Made in Matthew Perry’s Death Investigation
At least one person has been arrested in connection to the death of actor Matthew Perry, best known for his role in the hit show Friends. Perry was found unresponsive at his home in Los Angeles back in October last year.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Perry’s death was caused by the “acute effects of ketamine,” a controlled drug that he had been taking as part of a supervised therapy treatment.
Los Angeles police opened an investigation in May to look into why there was such a high level of ketamine in his system. Reports from outlets like ABC News and TMZ indicate that multiple arrests have taken place and that some people are facing federal charges, while other reports, including one from NBC News, confirm at least one arrest.
Law enforcement has planned a press conference for later today, where more details about the investigation will be shared.
Ketamine is known for its use in treating depression, anxiety, and pain. Friends insiders mentioned that Perry was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy before his passing. However, it was noted that his last session was more than a week prior to his death, raising questions about how he might have obtained the drug.
Besides the effects of ketamine, drowning was also listed as a contributing factor to his accident, alongside coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine, a medication used to treat opioid addiction.
Perry had a long history of struggling with addiction to painkillers and alcohol. He even spoke about his challenges during the filming of Friends, stating in a 2016 interview that he couldn’t remember three years of shooting due to substance use.
While he had reported being mostly sober since 2001, he admitted to having around 60 or 70 slip-ups during that time, offering a glimpse into his ongoing battle with addiction.
