Arvind Kejriwal's Jail Conditions Raise Controversy Amid Delhi Heat Wave

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, found himself at the center of a controversy on Monday as allegations surfaced regarding his conditions in Tihar Jail amidst scorching temperatures in the capital.

Delhi minister Atishi raised concerns stating that Kejriwal, who surrendered at Tihar Jail following the expiration of his interim bail granted by the Supreme Court, had not been provided with a cooler despite the soaring heat in Delhi reaching up to 48-50 degrees.

Atishi accused the BJP-led central government of neglecting Kejriwal’s basic necessities, highlighting that even notorious criminals in Tihar Jail were provided with coolers, whereas the Chief Minister was left without one.

After surrendering, Kejriwal embarked on a series of visits, paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, offering prayers at the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place, and addressing AAP leaders and workers at the party office.

During his address, Kejriwal emphasized his commitment to the country, stating, ‘I am going back to jail not because I was involved in corruption but because of a political battle.’ He further rallied AAP’s mission over his personal circumstances.

The Tihar jail officials refuted the allegations made by AAP leaders, with a senior official asserting that Kejriwal’s weight was measured once upon surrender and that cooler facilities were provided based on court orders and health conditions.

Atishi also claimed irregularities during Kejriwal’s medical examination, stating that his weight readings differed across multiple machines and alleging a conspiracy behind his treatment.

As the Delhi government and the central authorities remain at odds over the treatment of Kejriwal in jail, the situation has sparked a political debate amid the sweltering heatwave conditions in the region.
