The romantic drama ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’, directed by Neeraj Pandey, has hit the screens and unfortunately, it misses the mark on many fronts. With big names like Ajay Devgn and Tabu starring in it, there were high hopes for a compelling love story. But it seems this film just doesn’t have the spark it needs.

The plot revolves around two lovers, Krishna, played by Devgn, and Vasudha, portrayed by Tabu. The film tries to be innovative with a non-linear storytelling approach, moving back and forth in time. It starts off with younger versions of the couple, played by Shantanu Maheshwari and Saiee Majrekar, whose chemistry shows promise but quickly gets lost in the film’s convoluted narrative.

The story unfolds slowly, featuring Krishna serving a double murder sentence for 25 years, and his hesitant attitude towards getting released early raises plenty of questions. As viewers, we are left wanting to understand what led him to prison and why he’s reluctant to leave, but the answers come far too late in the narrative.

The pacing of ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ feels dreadfully slow, especially in the first half. The constant flashbacks only add to the confusion, making it seem like an endless loop rather than an engaging story. By the time the film reveals the critical incident from the past, the audience is left feeling exhausted.

Neeraj Pandey has previously excelled in thrillers, but his attempt at a romantic drama feels stretched and drawn out. While the film occasionally shines through clever one-liners and references, it often seems bogged down by unnecessary songs and subplots that detract from the main story.

Ajay Devgn gives a restrained performance, sticking to his signature brooding persona, while Tabu does her best to breathe life into an otherwise stale script. Jimmy Sheirgill, as usual, doesn’t get the girl, falling into yet another stereotyped role.

The music, composed by Oscar-winner MM Keeravani, is not particularly memorable. The film could have benefited from some editing to tighten up the storyline and enhance the viewing experience, but it appears Neeraj Pandey has let the film wander too much without direction.
