Aurora City Responds to Venezuelan Gang Activity
Aurora City, Colorado, is taking action against the growing presence of the Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, within its apartment complexes. Mayor Mike Coffman announced that the city is preparing to file for an emergency court order to address gang-related activities occurring in these buildings, identifying them as a ‘Criminal Nuisance.’
The efforts include routing the case through the Aurora City Attorney’s Office to restore control of these properties to their owners. Coffman emphasized that law enforcement’s task force, aimed at disrupting and apprehending gang members, will continue until order is restored.
An important development occurred recently when a leader of the Tren de Aragua gang, known as ‘Cookie Monster,’ was arrested in connection to a shooting incident. This arrest has sparked further focus on the gang’s impact on the community.
Council Member Danielle Jurinsky has been vocal about the situation, bringing attention to it through various media platforms. Jurinsky, after assisting local residents experiencing the gang-related disruptions, highlighted the urgent need for intervention.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis has faced criticism for his handling of the situation. Despite his office’s claims that concerns raised by local officials are overstated, Jurinsky and other community leaders continue to advocate for more robust measures to address the gang’s influence.
In response to the allegations and community distress, Governor Polis’ office stated that Colorado maintains a zero-tolerance stance against illegal activities. The state has offered assistance to local law enforcement and encourages any actionable evidence of illegal activity to be reported immediately.
