Australia is gearing up for an exciting gymnastics competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with a record-breaking 13-member team ready to showcase their talents. This squad will be the largest gymnastics contingent in Australia’s Olympic history, consisting of 11 women and two men.

The Australian team will have six gymnasts competing in both rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, while just one athlete will take part in the trampoline event. Among them, Tokyo Olympians Lidiia Iakovleva and Emily Whitehead will be making their return, competing in rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, respectively.

All other members of the squad will be making their Olympic debut. Youngster Brock Batty is set to make headlines as he becomes the youngest male gymnast to compete in the trampoline event at the age of 17 years and 211 days when he steps onto the mat in Paris. The only other male gymnast on the team is Jesse Moore.

It’s worth noting that Blake Rutherford, who was the top-ranked Australian in the men’s trampoline during the Olympic qualifying, unfortunately missed out on the games due to an injury. Additionally, Commonwealth Games champion Georgia Godwin has also ruled herself out of the Paris Olympics after suffering an Achilles injury back in May.

The gymnastics competitions will take place at two venues during the Olympics. Rhythmic gymnastics is scheduled for August 8 to 11 at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena, while the Bercy Arena will host artistic gymnastics from July 27 to August 5. The trampoline gymnastics events will also be at the Bercy Arena on August 3.

Australia’s proud history in gymnastics includes its first and only Olympic medal, which was clinched by Ji Wallace—a silver medal in the men’s trampoline event at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
