Award-Winning Housing Development Dominick Hall Opens in Dublin City
Dublin City Council announces the grand opening of 72 modern homes in the newly unveiled Dominick Hall and Dominick Place. The launch event was officiated by the esteemed Lord Mayor of Dublin Daithí de Róiste, in conjunction with Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Darragh O’Brien TD. This mixed-use development, situated on Dominick Street Lower in Dublin 1, boasts 72 new residences, a community center, and ground-floor commercial units.
The architectural design of the building focuses on delineating the residents’ private spaces from the bustling city center, with a secluded courtyard at podium level providing a tranquil, private amenity area for the residents. By re-establishing the building line of the historic residential street, the urban block signifies a significant revitalization of the inner city housing flat complex.
Recipient of the prestigious RIAI Irish Architecture Awards 2023 in the Living Category- Housing Schemes and recognized in the Building for All, Universal Design Category, this development exemplifies excellence in modern urban living. The 67 apartments and 5 townhouses offer a diverse range of living options, including one, two, and three-bedroom units, catering to various lifestyle needs and fostering a vibrant, sustainable community. Noteworthy are the 6 UD+ homes, characterized by their A2 BER rating, Near Zero Energy Building performance, and eco-friendly features like rainwater harvesting systems.
Funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, this project underscores the commitment of government entities to providing high-quality, energy-efficient, and accessible housing solutions. Lord Mayor Daithí de Róiste applauded the collaborative efforts between the Department and Dublin City Council in delivering these new homes and community amenities.
Minister Darragh O’Brien highlighted the transformative impact of this award-winning development, emphasizing how it offers a fresh residential perspective in Dublin 1. Cllr. Alison Gilliland, Chair of Dublin City Council’s Housing SPC, commended the integration of historic red brick aesthetics with contemporary sustainable architecture, noting the positive influence of the development on the city center community.
Assistant Chief Executive Frank d’Arcy expressed immense pride in the regeneration of Dominick Hall and Dominick Place, affirming the council’s dedication to creating thriving city center communities. The inclusion of a community center and commercial units in this mixed-use development further fosters community engagement and economic growth, enhancing the overall urban living experience for residents.
