Backyard Sports Makes a Comeback
Exciting news for fans of childhood games! The beloved «Backyard Sports» franchise is making a comeback, courtesy of Playground Productions. They announced this thrilling relaunch on Tuesday.
The new series will feature fan-favorite characters like Pablo Sanchez, Pete Wheeler, and Kiesha Phillips, among others from the original games. Playground Productions promises that the games will be released «in the coming months.» And it’s not just video games—merchandise, movies, and TV shows are on the way too!
Chris Waters, chief product officer at Playground Productions, expressed, “We’re incredibly excited to reintroduce ‘Backyard Sports’ to a new generation of players.” They aim to preserve the original charm of the games while incorporating modern features that today’s audience craves.
The «Backyard Sports» series started back in 1997, created by Humongous Entertainment and later licensed by big sports leagues like the NFL and NBA. Over the years, it had 38 games launched, with the last one being a mobile version in 2015.
Former NFL center Jason Kelce sparked interest in the franchise earlier this year when he voiced a desire to reclaim the rights to «Backyard Baseball» and «Backyard Football.» Even though he’s not directly involved in the relaunch, Playground Productions noted that he resonates with many fans who fondly remember the series.
Lindsay Barnett, creator of «Backyard Sports» and Playground Productions CEO, emphasized how cherished this franchise is for many. “The return of ‘Backyard Sports’ is a perfect embodiment of our goal to produce content that entertains, educates, and inspires.”
This revitalization hopes to connect with today’s kids while also invoking nostalgia in their parents, creating a bridge between generations. So, get ready, because «Backyard Sports» is back, and it’s going to be bigger and better!
