The Bad Guys 2″ Sequel Introduces New Female Characters in Upcoming Animation

DreamWorks Animation has announced the upcoming release of «The Bad Guys 2,» a sequel to its successful animated film. The movie, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2025, brings back the clever and reformed animal thieves for another thrilling caper, this time featuring an all-new female squad.

According to an exclusive interview with Variety, director Pierre Perifel shared insights into the sequel’s plot, emphasizing the exploration of the characters’ journeys after trying to transition from notorious criminals to respectable citizens. «We leave the bad guys as they’re trying to be good,» Perifel noted. «They’ve paid their debt to society and they’re about to be released from prison, which presents a whole new arc where they’re ready to be accepted by society.»

The original cast, featuring the voices of Sam Rockwell (Mr. Wolf), Marc Maron (Mr. Snake), Craig Robinson (Mr. Shark), Anthony Ramos (Mr. Piranha), and Awkwafina (Ms. Tarantula), will be joined by new additions Natasha Lyonne, Danielle Brooks, and Maria Bakalova. Danielle Brooks takes on the role of a new character, a snow leopard described as a «Wolf 2.0» by Perifel, portraying a character who is «super smart, super strong, cooler, and younger than Mr. Wolf.» The new team also includes a boar, played by Maria Bakalova, and a sarcastic raven, rounding out the group.

Based on the popular book series by Aaron Blabey, «The Bad Guys 2» promises a blend of «James Bond» and «Mission: Impossible-like» adventures, according to Perifel and producer Damon Ross. Ross expressed enthusiasm about expanding the film’s universe, stating, «This is an opportunity for us to open up the world, and for our characters to go outside of Los Angeles.»

«The Bad Guys,» released in 2022, received acclaim and grossed over $250 million worldwide, setting a high bar for its sequel. With the new film, audiences can expect heightened action sequences and high-stakes heists across the globe as the characters tackle new challenges.

Returning director Pierre Perifel, along with producer Damon Ross, have reassembled much of the original team, including Emmy nominee Zazie Beetz and BAFTA winner Richard Ayoade. The production also features music by returning Oscar-nominated composer Daniel Pemberton, ensuring continuity in the film’s artistic elements.
