Two-wheeler major Bajaj Auto is gearing up to unveil the world’s pioneering CNG motorcycle, with Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari anticipated to grace the event in Pune.

The upcoming bike, speculated to be named Freedom 125, is slated to debut in the 125 cc segment and will introduce flexible fuel alternatives, featuring distinct switches for petrol and CNG.

Bajaj Auto’s intention to cater to the affordable segment has been hinted at by company officials, positioning the CNG motorcycle towards the value-conscious customer base.

The anticipated launch in the April-June quarter of 2024-25 will initially target the Maharashtra market, as shared by Rakesh Sharma, ED at Bajaj Auto.

Highlighting the environmental benefits, MD Rajiv Bajaj noted that the CNG bike could significantly reduce emissions and fuel costs, with a substantial improvement in mileage.

Analysts predict an affordable pricing strategy for the CNG motorcycle, aimed at customers with monthly incomes ranging from Rs 30,000-40,000, with expectations of export to countries like Bangladesh and Egypt.

Risking performance challenges encountered in previous CNG trials, Bajaj Auto’s venture into CNG motorcycles follows success in the three-wheeler market where CNG technology prevails.
