Banks Closed for Labour Day in India – Maharashtra Day Celebrations Nationwide
Banks across several states in India will be closed today in celebration of Labour Day and Maharashtra Day. The states observing the bank holiday include Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Kerala, Bengal, Goa, and Bihar.
Labour Day, also known as International Workers’ Day, is celebrated globally on May 1st to honor the contributions of workers and the labour movement. In India, this day is also commemorated as Maharashtra Day, marking the formation of the state of Maharashtra in 1960.
Moreover, May 7th. 13th, and 20th will witness bank closures in states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Srinagar, and Maharashtra due to Lok Sabha general elections. Another notable holiday in May is the Rabindranath Tagore’s birthday celebrated in Bengal on May 8th.
In the latter half of the month, Sikkim’s State Day will be celebrated on May 16th, followed by Buddha Purnima observed on May 23rd in multiple states including Tripura, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu, Lucknow, Bengal, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar.
